1. Travis Mayweather
Enterprise really wasnt as bad as most people make out to be. It had an interesting premise that was beginning to take hold in its third and forth season. Unfortunately, the ratings did not pick up to match the rise in script quality and the series was cancelled after a four year run. Something that hadnt happened to Star Trek since the Original Series was prematurely axed. The crew is often cited as one of the problems for the series and on that I have to agree. Much like Hoshi, the other weak link was Travis Mayweather (Anthony Montgomery) the ships helmsman. He had an interesting back-story, he had spent most of his life traveling on cargo ships before enrolling in Starfleet so in many ways, he was the most experienced at life in deep space. In fact, the original plan was to have Mayweather as a Lieutenant because of his experience in space travel but the producers thought that him being the same rank as some of the older crew members wouldnt be believable, and he was reduced to Ensign. His character had the potential of being an adviser to the Captain. Every time they ran into a new species, he could have given Captain Archer a heads-up on what he could expect, having encountered them on one of his earlier trips. Unfortunately that was not the case, Mayweathers highlight in most episodes was to say Aye Captain and pretend to press some buttons on his console. Anthony Montgomery is a perfectly nice person, having met him he was pleasant enough, but he has to take some credit for making Travis Mayweather so dull. Montgomery lacked the range to convey depth in his character. Even when he could let go and have fun like in the awesome two part episode In A Mirror Darkly, where we see the crew in the evil mirror universe, Montgomery was firmly stuck in 1st gear, acting wise. You only have to watch his performance in the massive box office hit 'Leprechaun In The Hood,' to know what I mean. Its often joked that you could replace Mayweather with a potted plant or a plank of wood and you wouldnt know the difference. Sadly its true.
Most entertaining moment: That time when he increased speed to Warp 2.
