Star Trek: 6 Romulans Who Would Have Hated Unification (And 6 Who Wouldn't)

8. Commander Donatra

Spock Picard
Paramount

One who would see the direction the wind was blowing and be keen to follow in the footsteps of the winning side.

Donatra ultimately acts as Picard and the Enterprise's saviour in the Battle of the Bassen Rift. Coming in aboard the Valdore and accompanied by a second, revamped Warbird, she gave the Starfleet crew a moment to regroup and take advantage.

Yet she is a key part of the coup at the start of Nemesis and it's only later on that she questions Shinzon's motives. It shows a crack in the Picard clone's closest ranks and that there are Romulans who will think for themselves.

Donatra and her warbirds don't come out of their battle with the Scimitar unscathed by any stretch, but her choice to leap to the aid of a Starfleet vessel is very similar to the Enterprise-C defending the Klingons at Narendra III. That event was against the Romulans and it's interesting that after the dust settled from that, the alliance between the Federation and the Klingons grew in strength.

Donatra appears to see the changes ahead and the true danger Shinzon poses for the Empire. She seems more adaptable than most, though she might be easily swayed...

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
