Star Trek Cast: Where Are They Now?
5. George Takei
George Takei is still working today, frequently appearing on podcasts and YouTube specials. He is an outspoken activist for both LGBT rights and is vehemently opposed to the Trump Administration's stance on immigration.
As a child, he was interred along with the rest of his family in the Rohwer War Relocation Centre - a place for Japanese-American citizens during the War. He lost an aunt and cousin in the bombing of Hiroshima as well, before he and his family were released and were forced to live on Skid Row, Los Angeles.
Takei is a well known advocate for both LGBTQIA+ rights and also is well known for bringing attention to the plight of Japanese-Americans during the war. He wrote and starred in the Broadway show Allegiance, depicting his experiences in the internment camps. This was later turned into a graphic novel named 'They Called Us Enemy'.
He is very active on Facebook, keeping his page updated daily and often sharing many, many funny memes and jokes. Though he has appeared in several other roles over the years, he is still most well known for playing Sulu - a role he has reprised in the movies and in Star Trek: Voyager.
