Star Trek Characters That Need To Meet Each Other (Somehow)
9. Tasha And Sela
There is tragedy in the story of the Yar family. Raised on Turkana IV, which may or may not have fallen under the unfortunate influence of Section 31, both Tasha and Ishara Yar were raised in incredibly difficult circumstances. Though The Next Generation rarely went into too much details on the matter, Tasha described roving rape gangs, among other horrors.
Though Ishara remained behind and committed to gang life, Tasha escaped, only to be killed by the toxic alien sludge, Armus. In another life however, Tasha still served aboard the Enterprise-D as chief of security, during a devastating war with the Klingons. Yesterday’s Enterprise remains one of the most influential episodes of Star Trek ever made, introducing an entire arc that remains unresolved.
Tasha’s return to the past, her capture, and subsequent conception of a half-Romulan daughter, Sela, set much of the events surrounding the Klingon Civil War in place. Sela was indirectly responsible for her mother’s execution, ensuring that she was raised in the Romulan way.
The meeting of mother and daughter could help to resolve years of unknowns with both characters. While it never felt right to give Tasha an off-screen death, second time around or not, Sela’s vanishing after Unification would seem to suggest execution, or imprisonment. We now know that Shinzon was responsible for the assassination of (one of) the Romulan Senates. We know also that Nero travelled back in time, upsetting the flow of history. Simply put, getting these two women in a room together is probably not that hard to figure out.
Having Tasha confront Sela, highlighting the latter’s humanity, particularly in her apparent Romulan failures, would be a Long Trek worth having on its own.
