Star Trek Deep Space Nine Cast: Where Are They Now?

6. Miles O'Brien - Colm Meaney

The long suffering chief of operations on Deep Space Nine, Miles O'Brien was a role that Colm Meaney originated back on the Next Generation, appearing in the pilot Encounter at Farpoint. He is one of the few guest stars to appear in both the pilots and finale episodes for the Next Generation and Deep Space Nine.

Meaney was perhaps best known to audiences for his roles in The Barrytown Trilogy outside of Star Trek, but he has appeared in a vast array of both Irish, UK and American productions. He appeared in Die Hard 2, Into The West and The War of Buttons. After the show, he went on to appear in The Simpsons and Stargate Atlantis. He had a starring role in AMC's Hell on Wheels from 2011 to 2016, as well as a role in the adaptation of Childhood's End.

He went on to appear in Intermission as a hard boiled guard on the hunt for Colin Farrell's character, earning much praise from the critics. He then appeared in Matthew Vaughan's Layer Cake, alongside Trek alum Tom Hardy. His other film credits include Get Him To The Greek and The Journey, where he plays Northern Irish politician Martin McGuinness.

He recently sat for an interview with Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan, who asked him if he had ever felt stupid in his time on Star Trek. Meaney quickly quipped back, asking if Tiernan felt stupid in the hat he was wearing, before going on to praise his time on the show and affirm his fond memories of working on Star Trek. A class gent.
