Star Trek: Discovery 3.1 Review - Ups And Downs From That Hope Is You

9. All The Legacy Races (Up)

Star Trek Discovery Aliens
CBS

This is something that was teased in the very first trailer for Star Trek: Discovery and something that has excited fans for months. Though Discovery had already depicted Andorians, Tellarites and Orions, they were somewhat thin on the ground in depicting other legacy races.

That in itself is not a bad thing at all - it makes sense to take the time to introduce each race slowly, giving them a chance to breathe out of the bottle before moving on to the next. However, in this episode, dotted in between the other faces that the audience has seen before, there is a Lurian and a Cardassian.

Lurians were made famous by Morn from Deep Space Nine. Cardassians - that is a whole other story altogether, while also introducing more questions.

What happened to the Cardassian Union after the Dominion War? That is something that Star Trek: Picard may be better suited to answer, but what happens when other Empires are left unchecked, in the absence of the Federation?

After all, Dilithium is not gone, it's just risky!
