Star Trek: Discovery 3.12 Review: Ups And Downs From There Is A Tide

1. Goodbye Ryn, We Hardly Knew You!

Star Trek Discovery Ryn

To be very clear, we're not giving Ryn's death an up!

Noah Averbach-Katz's performance as the Andorian Ryn was a great addition to the season and his death was a solid punch in the chest for fans who had been growing to love him. While he didn't get nearly as much screentime as many would have liked, what he did with the time given was perfect, funny and emotive, ensuring that he will be remembered and not simply as a guest of the week.

What's more, his death made sense in the story. Osyrra really didn't need him alive - her great secret was out, therefore (from her point of view) there was nothing special and nothing to be gained in keeping him alive. He had proven himself more than troublesome along the way.

Ryn will be missed. He was quickly establishing himself as a trusted part of the team, and his brutal murder only serves to elevate the feelings of resentment going into the final episode of the season. Overall, a huge UP from us.
