Star Trek: Discovery 3.12 Review: Ups And Downs From There Is A Tide

2. Die Hard On Discovery

Star Trek Die Hard
CBS/Kris Thompson

This week went all in with action and adventure, as Burnham effectively took over the role of John McClane. She manages to sneak undetected aboard Discovery when she and Book crash his ship into the shuttle bay, beaming away to avoid security. From there, she battles Zara's goons one by one. In fact, the fighting feels visceral and brutal as she attempts to take back the ship. She gets a knife in her thigh for her troubles.

She also manages to get a message off to her mother on Ni'Var. There is little doubt that this is going to lead to a rescue next week, but for now it is distracted as she blows a soldier out of a hull breach (losing her shoes in the process, to make the Die Hard references even more obvious) and continues on.

She is not entirely alone however. In the ready room, Tilly and the rest of the bridge crew (minus Nilsson, for some reason) overpower another couple of guards and break free, beginning their own retake of the ship. They run into some Dot-7's with a very familiar voice before the episode ends...

Overall, this action-adventure approach to the episode is a great and powerful UP this week!
