Star Trek: Discovery - 9 Reasons To Be Worried
5. Absence Of Bryan Fuller
1308713Bryan Fuller cut his teeth with Star Trek, writing for Deep Space Nine in his early 20s and later for Voyager. With Hannibal and American Gods, Fuller has proven himself to be a viable talent for the television industry.
Naturally, when he was suddenly and mysteriously stripped of his executive position, many people became both concerned and dismayed. While Fuller is still credited, he maintains he no longer has any significant input, and his credit is likely for marquee purposes only. Other than citing his commitment to American Gods, neither Fuller nor CBS have disclosed much information about the split, which indicates a questionable, perhaps rocky relationship. It is widely believed that Fuller was fired from his own show.
His version apparently took a more faithful route in terms of canon, which was to be visually similar and designed as an anthology series, but his loyalty to Trek caused him some harmful arguments. Rumour has it he clashed with CBS executives, namely Les Moonves, who is somewhat notorious for his ignorance and overall distaste for science fiction. Moonves is already well known to Trekkies for cancelling Enterprise, and apparently insisted that Discovery break from many Trek traditions.
It's regrettable that Fuller’s singular vision may have been lost, with Trek now in the hands of excessively corporate loons.
