Star Trek Discovery: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'Far From Home'
8. Not-So Deserted Planet
During Saru and Tilly's trek across the glacier in search of rubindium, we get a good look at more, beautiful, big budget location photography in Iceland.
As we mentioned last week, these sequences were among the first scenes shot for Star Trek: Discovery season three back in the summer of 2019. While Iceland stood in for "Hima" in "That Hope is You", here in "Far From Home", Iceland is doubling for another alien world known only as The Colony.
Saru and Tilly spot a lone figure on the horizon and follow him into a trap at the Coridan mining settlement, however, they are clearly unaware that that lone figure isn't actually alone.
At around the 21-minute mark, figures can be seen in the extreme background descending a hill behind Tilly. These are either hikers accidentally caught by the production during location photography or two members of the production crew who inadvertently entered the frame. Either way, this is the rare visual blooper to appear in Star Trek: Discovery that wasn't caught during editing and digitally removed.
