Star Trek Discovery: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'That Hope Is You'
1. Recurring Theme
Back on the abandoned Starfleet relay station that began the episode, Michael and Book encounter Aditya Sahil, keeper of the flame of the United Federation of Planets and what Book describes as a "true believer".
As Michael gives Sahil a Starfleet field commission and the group raises the Federation flag, Jeff Russo's triumphant music swells. This is actually a reused musical cue (titled "War is Over") from the season one finale, "Will You Take My Hand?", heard during Michael's speech at Federation Headquarters – an appropriate parallel.
According to prop master Mario Moreira on The Ready Room, the art department settled on the new design for the flag of the United Federation of Planets by extrapolating over 900 hundred years of development in roughly 20 year increments. The logo in "That Hope is You" is simpler with fewer stars, potentially indicating the diminished state of the United Federation of Planets following The Burn.
