Star Trek: Discovery - Ups And Downs For Season 3 Episode 4 Forget Me Not

8. Responsibility Hoarder (UP)

Star Trek Discovery Culber
CBS

There is an exchange between Culber and Burnham that truly shines this week. It has long been established that Burnham is the spine around which the show is wrapped, which in itself isn't an issue (more on that later) but this scene serves to hang a lampshade on it. For the first time, the audience truly sees Burnham ask 'why me?'

Culber asks her to accompany Adira down to the planet's surface, to which Burnham (correctly) responds that she doesn't know Adira well at all. Culber smiles and points out that who else on the ship would be better suited to help someone adjust to a new way of living? Burnham, having arrived a year earlier than the rest of the crew, has at least adapted to the 31st century.

Also, as Culber points out with a wry smile - of Burnham will be the one to accompany Adira. She's a responsibility hoarder, after all.
