Star Trek: EVERY Chief Of Security Ranked From WORST To BEST

3. Odo - Deep Space Nine

How best to describe Constable Odo? A brilliant cop who's quietly ferocious and deeply principled. It's not his fault that being a Changeling in the middle of the Dominion War made his situation more than a little complicated.

If there's a position where being gruff and taciturn can actually be an advantage, it's security. And there's no doubt that Odo's attitude would make you think twice about causing trouble on his station. His keen observational skills and uncanny instinct make him a seriously skilled investigator. And that's just about perfect for a station that has secrets in every shadow and all kinds of rapscallions passing through.

His obsession with maintaining order can make him a rigid taskmaster, but it's his sense of justice that really sets Odo apart. And it was his difficult path through life that taught him the true value of it.

Brought up in a lab, Odo would eventually work under the Cardassians during the Bajoran occupation. His lonely life made him the ideal unbiased investigator. But when his need to maintain stability led to the hasty execution of innocent Bajorans, he learnt a painful lesson. The desire for discipline should never be allowed to rush the course of justice.

And he would continue to carry that wisdom with him on Deep Space Nine. He understood the importance of maintaining balance. Yes, he believed in running a tight ship, but he knew that turning a blind eye to certain petty misdemeanours was sometimes necessary to maintain the station's equilibrium. And his awareness that the rule of law didn't always align with right and wrong was invaluable.
