Star Trek: Every Lt. Barclay Episode Ranked Worst To Best
1. Pathfinder
In what is easily one of the most effecting and uplifting scenes in the entirety of Star Trek: Voyager, Starfleet Command finally manages to make direct contact with the ship, thanks to the efforts of Reginald Barclay - despite some pretty unorthodox methods.
The episode is told almost exclusively from his point of view and first the audience sees that he seems to have regressed into his holo-addiction. However, it is more complex than that. His obsession now is Voyager itself and getting the crew home. The holograms merely allow him to remain focused.
As always, he receives push back from his superiors and yet he manages to break through, activating the MIDAS array that allows him to beam a communications stream all the way to the Delta Quadrant and to Voyager itself.
The scene is touching, bittersweet in that it only lasts a few moments, but it is enough to remind the crew on board Voyager that they are not alone and that Starfleet has not abandoned them. Barclay gets to speak to the crew who mean so much to him and, though it would still be some time before regular contact could commence, his toast with Deanna Troi at the episode's end feels more than well earned.
