Star Trek: How EVERY Captain Became Captain

12. Captain Philippa Georgiou

Phillipa Georgiou was born in 2202 in Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia and experienced a great loss early on in her life. At age eighteen, she entered Starfleet Academy.

There, she met Christopher Pike and quickly gained a reputation as being someone who could drink both Pike and anyone else under the table, but also as someone who had every Starfleet Regulation learned off-book by the second week.

She would graduate from the academy with high honours, rising quickly through the ranks. As a lieutenant on board the USS Archimedes, she intercepted a transmission from Kaminar. She was able to interpret this as a sign of superior intellect and of a species ready for first contact, though a species of one. She convinced Starfleet to allow her to bring Saru away from the planet, at the cost of leaving his family behind.

Following this, she served several more years in the fleet, earning commendations along the way. She earned the Star Cross and Legion of Honour, along with a diploma from the Laikan Military Academy on Andoria for Advanced Interstellar Combat.

By the year 2249, she had been given command of the USS Shenzhou, where she welcomes Michael Burnham on board.
