Star Trek Lower Decks: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'Second Contact'

7. Freeman's Ready Room Decor

Star Trek Lower Decks
CBS

After Boimler is summoned by Captain Freeman, we get a look at the Cerritos' (once again) very Enterprise-D and USS Voyager-esque bridge, then spend a scene in the captain's ready room.

Freeman's office is decorated by a vintage California state flag – one of many references to the state throughout the pilot, including the Cerritos herself (named after a Californian city), the class of the ship (California-class), the names of the shuttlecraft (named for national parks in California), and even, as we learn in this scene, Boimler's hometown of Modesto, California. The previously mentioned Nurse Westlake may also be named after the city of Westlake Village near Los Angeles (or, as suggested before, composer Chris Westlake).

Other items in the ready room include an officer's cap like the one on display in Captain Pike's quarters in "The Cage" and worn by Kirk and Spock in Star Trek Into Darkness. Freeman is also displaying a model of the Cerritos (like any proud captain would), a model of a sailing ship, an ammonite (à la Jean-Luc Picard), some boxed bottles of booze, a sextant, some kind of Starfleet plaque or award, and an ancient baseball – the game having fallen out of favor by the 24th century.
