Star Trek Lower Decks: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'Second Contact'

3. A Little Stroll

Star Trek Lower Decks
CBS

When the zombie virus is unleashed on the Cerritos, Rutherford and Barnes don space suits and "take a walk" across the hull of the ship to the rally point in transporter room 8.

This sequence is framed a lot like the scene in Star Trek: First Contact in which Picard, Worf, and soon-to-be-assimilated Lieutenant Hawk wear similar space suits and walk across the hull of the Enterprise-E.

However, instead of battling the Borg, Rutherford and Barnes continue their date and both declare their love for the "classical" band, The Monkees. This is yet another instance of futuristic Starfleet officers being way too familiar with 20th century music and similar to McCoy's reference to the Beastie Boys as "classical music" in Star Trek Beyond.
