6. Vulcan?
One consistent theme we've had across all the trailers has been the background setting of a sandy, ashen, rocky location. Fight scenes have been pitched there, it's been the backdrop to exposition, and we've even had the all-important establishing shot giving us a fuller look at the near-desert setting. For obvious reasons, the assumption has been that this is Vulcan.
Firstly it looks just like Vulcan, which is as good a reason as any, but the primary thinking has been that it's the most natural place for the billions of Romulan refugees to go. With their world destroyed and their government presumably in chaos, the Romulans have turned to their biological cousins for sanctuary. The two species having segregated thousands of years prior, but retaining a number of important cultural connections.
There hasn't been a great deal of talk around Vulcan involvement in the show, with even Narek (a character initially assumed to be of Vulcan descent) revealed to be a Romulan agent who joins Picard's crew. However as you'll see in a later entry, there is one other possibility for where this might all be set...
