As the La Sirena is pulled into Cappelius' atmosphere by the aforementioned giant space flowers, Picard's deadly degenerative ailment that has yet to be named but is probably Irumodic Syndrome starts acting up.
Passed out in the La Sirena cockpit, Picard has visions of the San Diego Comic Con 2019 trailer for Star Trek: Picard, scored with the sound of the classic Star Trek: The Next Generation tricorder.
When Picard awakes in sickbay, Agnes is very concerned. Since the orchids disabled the La Sirena's power systems, Jurati uses an old tricorder she found to scan Picard. The close up shot of the medical kit shows the old tricorder is actually a new design, similar to the TNG model, but possibly from the post-Star Trek Nemesis, pre-Star Trek: Picard era. There's also a certifiably old hypospray, identical to the ones used in TNG, DS9, and Voyager, but dramatically different from the hypospray that was featured in "Nepenthe".
Picard later admits to Agnes, Rios, Soji, and Auntie Raffi that he has a brain abnormality which he has known about for years. As previously covered when we talked about "Maps and Legends", this may be a reference to the scene in TNG's final episode "All Good Things..." where Doctor Beverly Crusher discovers the captain has an abnormality in the parietal lobe which may lead to the degenerative disease, Irumodic Syndrome. However, Picard also admits that Doctor Benayoun informed him the disease is now in the terminal stage, again a callback to "Maps and Legends".
