Star Trek Picard: Every Major Character Ranked

1. Jean-Luc Picard

Star Trek Picard
CBS

Now Jean-Luc was always going to be the top of this list but it wasn't simply because the show is his namesake. Patrick Stewart is a world class act and is clearly emotionally invested in every scene that he is. So, criticisms out of the way quickly - he is perhaps too emotional in some scenes.

This is Captain Picard, a man known for his stoicism and clear head, something that this Picard is a little distant from. That's the same criticism though as Picard is not the Next Generation. So, comparing the characters, maybe Next Gen will win this one.

But, the above may seem silly when you consider that Stewart displays such a range of emotion and power in this role that it blows every other character off the screen. His scenes with Data are heart warming and heart breaking. His scenes with Soji show his strengths and failings as a man. His scenes with Raffi show the contrast between his personality and his Captaincy. His scenes with Riker warm the coldest soul.

Star Trek Picard was a mixed bag in terms of quality. When it was bad, it was schlocky and needed work. But, when it was good, it was great and up there with the best of the franchise. Patrick Stewart gets to show everyone why this is the one character that has an entire show named after them. Captain Picard is back, twisting and turning along the way and, no matter what the issues are, that is a good thing.
