Star Trek Picard: Every Major Character Ranked

13. Altan Inigo Soong

Altan Soong
CBS

Stepping out of the crowd and into Star Trek history, another Soong is introduced in the series penultimate episode. While it is always a treat to see Brent Spiner back on screen, there was a slight contrivance about the sudden introduction of another member of the Soong family. It is surely not beyond the realm of possibility for there to be more of them out there yet the character was a little forced. His name is good fun all the same.

He effectively exists for two reasons, plot wise and production wise. Plot - he exists to save Picard's life by creating the Golem. Production - he was clearly an excuse to get Spiner out of the make-up that the audience is so used to seeing him in. With the exception of the Golem, he plays a relatively minor role in the series. He may have been the father of the synthetics but it was a role that could have just as easily been filled by Bruce Maddox - there was no need for it to be Soong.

Spiner does what he always does in that he delivers an excellent performance in the time given to him on screen. He is the only character to truly call out Juratti for the murder of Maddox and for this alone he rises above others on this list. While we may never see him again, for a brief moment, the Soong family was alive again.
