Star Trek Picard: Every Season One Death Ranked

As soon as we all saw a devastated Seven Of Nine crying over the body of a dead loved one in the initial Picard trailers, Icheb's time on this plane was always numbered.

In truth, while it's sad that we had to lose him, his death was a necessary backstory step for Seven and for her development into the even more badass iteration she's become since the end of Voyager. She needed pain and Icheb's death was very much that catalyst.

His death was also one of the smart establishing shots for how non-synth characters felt about synths and how at odds that was with the stance of advocates. They were no more than commodities to be used, traded and disposed of where necessary.

So while the tragedy of Icheb felt only like a throwaway moment, there was some importance behind it.
