Star Trek: The Next Generation Sequel - 7 Ideas For Jean-Luc Picard's Return

6. Picard The Admiral

If the Captain’s Chair feels stale, CBS could always fall back to that age old Trek trope and simply move Jean-Luc upstairs to an office job. He turned down countless promotions in TNG, but what if he finally stepped away from the front lines and decided to really make a difference.

Now, on the face of it, this doesn’t sound overly exciting. Admiral’s in Star Trek are universally either stuffy bureaucrats, by-the-book killjoys or, simply, evil. However it’s an entire avenue in Trek lore that’s never really been explored. With the galaxy presumably in relative turmoil (because it always is) Picard as the seen-it-all problem solver zipping around the fleet putting out fires would make an exciting series.

Being the real string puller with trillions of lives in his hands, as opposed to simply those of his crew, raises the stakes yet further. Plot within a plot though; as with Kirk’s steadfast refusal to acclimatise to a new life away from the Captain’s Chair, Picard too could secretly hunger to be back in command.
