Star Trek: The Next Generation Sequel - 7 Ideas For Jean-Luc Picard's Return
5. Picard The Teacher
If only because so many of The Next Generation’s episodes tended to culminate in a long-winded, salient speech from him, Captain Picard would make an obscenely good teacher at Starfleet Academy. Indeed, some of the show’s best episodes focused around his time in San Fransisco and how it moulded him from the impulsive, reckless young man into the mature commanding officer he eventually became.
Season 6’s Tapestry, in which Q shows Picard an alternative timeline where his time at the academy didn’t mould him this way is, well, exceptional. But if the classroom doesn’t excite the executives as a setting for the new show, Picard could even take on the role of a latter day Boothby.
The Academy’s legendary groundsman was one of his greatest influences, had a hand in the formative careers of both Sisko and Janeway, and was even the man selected by Kings of Banter Species 8472 as the Federation’s spiritual focal point. Picard might not make the best groundsman, but tasked with the spiritual and emotional wellbeing of hundreds of cadets, the storyline potential is near infinite.
