Star Trek: The Next Generation Sequel - 7 Ideas For Jean-Luc Picard's Return

4. Picard The Archaeologist

If Captain Picard was a real person, and you asked him at any point during The Next Generation what he wanted to do after all this, “daring intergalactic collector of relics” is probably the answer you’d get.

Countless times during the show’s run, the one true song of Picard’s heart was central to the storyline. In Gambit’s part 1 and 2 he poses as one of the galaxy’s leading experts in the field, in The Chase he and his mentor Galen set of on “the most profound discovery of our time”. These episodes were some of the show’s finest work.

Having Picard now free of Starfleet, but still in command of his own little ship, scuttling around the galaxy uncovering old relics and getting into misadventures is possibly the idea most fitting with the character. He can face old foes, call on old friends, and also introduce us to a very new, very different crew.
