Star Trek The Next Generation: Where Are They Now?

10. Whoopi Goldberg

A lifelong fan of the original series, Sister Act star Whoopi Goldberg leapt at the chance to replace Denise Crosby’s Tasha Yar when the actor’s character was killed off (for the first time) at the end of the Next Generation’s first season. So Guinan, the level-headed bartender and source of sage advice aboard Enterprise, came to be, and Goldberg would go on to play a pivotal role in the series’ remaining six seasons.

Goldberg herself recently accepted an invite to return to the series from Picard star Patrick Stewart on her daytime TV talk show The View, and not a moment too soon it seems. The offer coincided with Goldberg being criticized across social media for pressing US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders to concede defeat to Joe Biden, a move which prompted former Daily Show correspondent John Oliver to compile a supercut of Goldberg defending alleged sex offenders including Biden.

Outside of The View, the actor has mostly limited her onscreen appearances to cameos in the likes of Bojack Horseman and Scooby Doo, though she will play Mother Abigail in a most-likely way-too-soon adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand.
