Star Trek The Next Generation: Where Are They Now?
9. Brent Spiner
Yes, Data actor Brent Spiner is best known for his
role as the naïve android, but that’s not really an insult to the rest of the
actor’s work. It’s more of a testament to just how much humour, pathos, and surprising
depth the thespian managed to bring to a role which by definition left him unable
to emote onscreen.
Where Data could have ended up a one-not joke character in other hands, Spiner imbued the gormless robot with real heart and created one of the Next Generation’s most memorable figures in the process. Since the show ended Spiner had kept busy, appearing in both Independence Day films from 2012 helmer Roland Emmerich as well as cult comedies Dude Where’s My Cat and South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut.
Most recently, he can be seen starring in 2017’s horror Outcast, from Walking Dead creator Robert Kurtzman, as well as appearing in Picard and the upcoming Nathan Lane/ Natalie Dormer (together at last) joint Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.
