Star Trek Voyager Feature Length Episodes: Ranked

2. Year Of Hell

Voyager Year Of Hell
CBS Media Ventures / Paramount Pictures

Year of Hell was a serious contender for the top spot on this list. It is a tight, tense story with a strong plot, excellent guest stars and some of the darkest moments that Voyager ever goes through.

There is simply so much on show to like here, including the introduction of the new Astrometrics Lab, the temporal shockwaves and the stunning design of the Temporal Weapon Ship. Annorax is one of the great villains of Trek because he so clearly believes in what he is doing and the audience can see his motivations so perfectly. It is entirely plausible that Chakotay understands him because he is not evil, he is simply willing to do whatever it takes to get back what he's lost.

Voyager has suffered in her time but never moreso than here. Under constant attack, she shows just how much it takes to break a ship apart. The explosion that the Doctor witnesses blows a trench along the saucer section, killing two crewmen in the process. Pieces of the ship fly off while at warp and the majority of the crew must abandon Voyager to survive.

Janeway is not just the hero of the piece but is the most determined leader to save everyone that the franchise had yet delivered. She forms alliances, runs into burning rooms and takes Voyager through the hull of the Temporal ship to right the wrongs of Annorax. This is an episode with huge rewatch value, epic in scale and chilling in scope.
