Star Trek Voyager Feature Length Episodes: Ranked

11. The Killing Game

The Killing Game was a fourth season entry, written as an attempt to wrap up the Hirogen storyline that had been introduced several episodes earlier. The story begins with Voyager overrun and the crew mostly confined to the holodeck, forced to fight the hunters across various simulations.

The choice to use World War Two as a setting for a hunt was a novel one and it is always fun to see the regular cast portray different versions of themselves (special shout out for Klingon Janeway). However, somewhere along the way, the execution of this episode got a bit muddled.

No one is about to say the NAZIs deserved more sympathetic depictions but the episode doesn't do anything new, other than show the bad guys in different costumes. There is potential for one single Hirogen to have an arc, where the rest of the runtime is spent showing off the Paramount backlot.

The Killing Game is an enjoyable feature length episode and the action is quite good. Flipping Janeway and Chakotay's roles and making him the army captain while she is the resistance leader was a clever idea, while Seven's singing voice was just delightful! The episode ranks so low on this list because when compared against the rest, it just didn't deliver much beyond the novelty factor.
