Star Wars: Ranking Every Animated Series From Worst To Best

3. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008)

Say what you will about the prequel trilogy, but this series set in between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith features some of Star Wars' best storytelling. It further fleshed out the titular conflict that had been alluded to since back in A New Hope, and is an essential part of Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader.

The Clone Wars gave the characters we know and love like Obi-Wan and Yoda more time to shine, while also giving characters who felt underused in the films a second chance at greatness (most notably Padmé Amidala and most of the Jedi council members).

What's more is that the show also introduced us to some fantastic fresh faces, such as Ahsoka Tano, Satine Kryze, and Saw Gerrera (the latter of whom would eventually make an appearance in Rogue One).

Most importantly, there's something here for fans of all ages. The Clone Wars is a series that's lighthearted at times, but also very mature when it needs to be, not unlike most of the main films.

The only real drawback is that, with six seasons, the show does feel a bit long. This isn't inherently a bad thing, but it definitely begs the question of "why wasn't any of this mentioned?" when rewatching Episode III.

Still, it's a great program filled with essential lore that all Star Wars fans should take the time to appreciate.
