Star Wars: Ranking Every Animated Series From Worst To Best
2. Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003)
It may no longer be canon, but the original Clone Wars TV series is still an absolute masterwork of a cartoon, which makes sense, given that it was helmed by industry icon Genndy Tartakovsky.
Star Wars: Clone Wars is the epitome of the saying "less is more." The whole series is only a few hours long, but is still epic, well-rounded, and captivating. In fact, when you watch it all back, it feels less like a TV show and more like a feature film that seamlessly fills the gap between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
From Anakin and Obi-Wan growing stronger as Jedi and maturing as friends, to Count Dooku training General Grievous, to the nitty-gritty of the Clone War itself, this series covers so much ground. Also, Grievous has never been more intimidating than he was in this show.
In addition, this Clone Wars series gave the succeeding one some of its great ideas, such as the story of Asajj Ventress, giving more screentime to characters who didn't get enough in the films, and further exploring Anakin's turn to the dark side. The time was also taken to explain the little things, like C-3PO getting his gold plating and how General Grievous got his cough.
The scripting was tight and paid attention to detail, the humor landed, the stylization was appealing, and the action was exciting. The canon Clone Wars series is absolutely terrific as well, but this one felt truly special, and clearly had a lot of love put into it.
Any Star Wars fan, young or old, would be doing themselves a disservice by not checking it out.
