Star Wars: Ranking Every Animated Series From Worst To Best

4. Star Wars: Droids

Back in 1985, the animated series Star Wars: Droids was just about the closest thing there was to a Star Wars prequel. It followed everyone's favorite robotic duo, C-3PO and R2-D2, trying to tell the story of what exactly they were up to prior to the events of A New Hope. What's more is that Anthony Daniels himself even reprised his role as Threepio.

Much like the two aforementioned shows, Droids was definitely made with with children in mind (it debuted the exact same time as Ewoks, after all). However, it was also rather ambitious with the way it was structured.

Droids used a multi-episode story arc format -- something not a lot of cartoons did at the time -- which allowed for some genuinely well-rounded storytelling, even if the stories it told have been obliterated from canon.

Much like with Ewoks, Droids was a product of its time and some of the silly creative choices don't really hold up. That said, it was also a charming first attempt at using animation to flesh out the Star Wars lore. And, as the following entries on this list have proven, that idea has definitely paid off in the long run.
