Star Wars: Ranking Every Animated Series From Worst To Best
1. Star Wars Rebels
Star Wars Rebels is everything great about Star Wars television rolled into one, definitive program.
It fills in the blanks between Revenge of the Sith and A New hope that were left by the Expanded Universe purge, giving fantastic, all-new characters the spotlight while also staying true to what the franchise stands for.
This show nailed so much during its four-season run. The master/padawan relationship between Kanan and Ezra is one of the most complex and interesting in the franchise; Kanan and Ezra's respective backstories and intrapersonal conflicts are incredibly strong; Hera and Sabine have made names for themselves as two of the overall strongest characters in the franchise; and the story of all of these characters helping to light the spark of the original rebellion is enthralling.
On a related note, one thing that Rebels arguably does better than any other Star Wars story is its portrayal of exactly what it was like for everyday citizens of the galaxy to live under the Empire's reign. Hence, why the formation of the Rebel Alliance was so important.
Rebels built upon the new canon that was established in The Clone Wars, giving characters like Ahsoka and Maul more to do. And it did so while also leaving room for franchise veterans like Leia, Lando, and Mon Mothma.
Finally, the storytelling in Rebels is far more mature than most people would expect from a network Disney series. The show has a great sense of fun, but also doesn't sugarcoat the fact that characters' actions often come with heavy consequences.
Rebels is everything a Star Wars animated series should be. The animation itself has never been better, it tells a fantastic story with memorable characters, it's not too short or too long, and it provides a perfect mix of new and old ideas that will appeal to Star Wars fans, regardless of their age.
