Star Wars Rebels: 9 Reasons You Need To Be Watching

1. Connection To The Star Wars Universe

Rebels is part of a much bigger picture, and the show realises that with awesome guest stars (such as Lando Calrissian), references and plenty of Easter Eggs. The crew’s future is unclear as of yet, but even that hasn’t stopped fans from assuming that Ezra Bridger will eventually become Snoke, from The Force Awakens.

The show builds on things that Star Wars fans want, such as the recent exploration into the Force, heavily focusing on aspects of the Jedi and the Sith. The crossguard lightsaber is a shining example of this, which made its first appearance in Episode 7.

Used by Kylo Ren in the film, the lightsaber harks back to a design used during the ‘Great Scourge of Malachor’, a battle that commenced thousands of years ago. And who finds their very own crossguard lightsaber on the petrified Malachor? None other than Ezra Bridger.

There are links all over the place in Rebels, with events that result in what we see even in the original trilogy. The crew just recently acquired a couple of Y-Wings from an Imperial scrap, which in turn become a part of the Gold Squadron seen in A New Hope.

It’s a must-watch for Star Wars fans, and with appearances from Lando, Leia and minor characters such as Wedge Antilles, it’s practically criminal to miss out on the show. LucasFilm has produced a more approachable cartoon than The Clone Wars and has infused it with darker elements and an expansion of Star Wars core principal themes. If you haven't watched Rebels yet, there's no better time to start. It's pretty wizard.
