Star Wars Rebels Season 3: 6 Big Things We Still Haven't Seen

5. The Outrider

Spotted in the Season 3 trailer, fans of the Expanded Universe may have caught a glimpse of The Outrider, a ship that belonged to smuggler Dash Rendar. This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen a model from the Expanded Universe make its way into canon, with the Hammerhead-Class Crusier from the Old Republic era making its debut in last season’s episode, A Princess on Lothal. So don’t get too excited about seeing Rendar himself in the series. Filoni has already confirmed as much, and has also shot down another rumour that it would be Cad Bane taking the helm of the famous frigate.

But what’s actually more intriguing is who the pilot could be. There is only a quick glance of the pilot, also shot from the back, but you’d be forgiven for thinking that it was Ezra himself. The design of the hair is not unlike the style he’s sported for the last two seasons, before cutting it shorter for the third. It’s not impossible to think that Star Wars Rebels would use flashbacks episodes, but it is unlikely. It would seem very out of character to have an episode that is out of sync with the rest of the story.

With Ezra continuing to grow in power, both in the dark side and the light, it isn’t unreasonable to think that Ezra may claim the Outrider for his own and embark on more solo missions. He doesn’t like putting his friends in danger after all. We got a flavour of that in The Antilles Extraction.

The Ghost can also be spotted flying alongside the Outrider into battle, but whether they are friend or foe remains a mystery, although there is a second shot that pictures the Ghost carrying the Outrider past an Imperial blockade.

Whoever the pilot is and whatever the significance of The Outrider being in Rebels, we’ll have to sit tight. But by bringing another iconic ship design from the Expanded Universe, it’s sure to have some gravitas over its debut episodes.
