Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Every Main Character Ranked Worst To Best

Anakin was...well, he was a little uninspired in the prequels, to say the least. A mixture of poor writing and less-than-great acting made him a mostly insufferable addition to his own story, so the thought of sitting through seven seasons of TV with him seemed impossible.

But The Clone Wars had no trouble saving Anakin and adding a level of depth, drama and subtle tragedy to the character that hadn't really been seen in the prequel trilogy.

With clever call-backs to the films, tightly-focussed writing and thrilling storytelling, Anakin's development from young knight to renowned military leader and Republican hero makes for the show's most heartbreaking and poignant asset.

Between the tragedy of his character, though, he's also genuinely endearing, given a breezy sense of humour, forming strong bonds with his new Padawan Ahsoka and his right-hand Captain Rex, and being undeniably heroic in the face of a never-ending war.

At its centre, Star Wars is all about Anakin's rise and fall, and never has that been more clear or enthralling as it is in The Clone Wars.
