7. MGM's Woes
MGM was the first studio to delay one of it's films, (the next 007 outing 'No Time To Die') at the start of the pandemic and many other studios have followed suit, with a number of films going straight to streaming services and bypassing the cinema. Even without the worldwide miasma of Covid looking over their shoulders, more and more media is being moved to the digital format and MGM hasn't kept up in pace with other studios.
MGM's history since the turn of the century has been one fraught with financial woes, the company officially went bankrupt, following the 2008-2009 recession, but managed to bounce back within a few years. A few lawsuits have followed, notably with Starz Entertainment over online streaming distribution rights.
Perhaps launching a new streaming-based show (with Netflix or Amazon perhaps?) based on one of MGM's beloved franchises could help restore long-term investment faith in the studio?
