Stargate: 10 Reasons Why NOW Is The Perfect Time To Bring The Franchise Back
5. Stargate Revolution And Extinction
There were two straight-to-DVD movies that were in the planning stage when the Stargate franchise dwindled down, one for the SG-1 cast and one for the Atlantis cast, both of these had intriguing premises that deserve to be explored.
Stargate Extinction was to be a follow up to Stargate Atlantis and would have dealt with the majority of the cast returning to the Pegasus galaxy to either continue or put an end to the conflict with the Wraith. Given how Season 5 of Stargate Atlantis ended, there was no definitive conclusion to the Wraith War, so there was more than enough scope to find a way to end it or to build interest in further chapters to that story.
Stargate Revolution is easily another concept that would survive being revived years later, since the story was going to be that of the Stargate Program finally going public. By the end of Stargate Universe, the franchise had been going for sixteen years and many major nations of the world had been in on what would be the biggest secret held from the public of all time. The idea of revealing the Stargate to the world at large could be the most fertile ground for another series or movie.
