Stargate: 10 Reasons Why NOW Is The Perfect Time To Bring The Franchise Back
4. Divided Fanbases
It's been fair to say that some of the revivals of classic science fiction franchises (namely Star Trek: Discovery and the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy) haven't always gone down well with fans. The Last Jedi in particular has been called the most divisive Star Wars film ever, while many devoted Trek fans have turned away from the latest entries in the franchise, finding more comfort in parodies like The Orville.
While this could be a challenge for any revival of Stargate, the important lesson from these starkly polarising franchise entries is to set the right tone. More than any single factor, finding the right tone is crucial to success. While the Sequel Trilogy may still divide fans, the Mandalorian hasn't. While Star Trek: Discovery may receive many negative reviews, Star Trek: Lower Decks hasn't. The main reason why these have done better? These are made by fans.
Jon Favreau has said that he was a huge Star Wars fan before his chance at the Mandalorian and Mike McMahan professed his love for Star Trek while working on Rick & Morty. So if MGM wanted to bring back Stargate, make sure to find someone who loves the franchise already.
And who isn't JJ Abrams.
