Stargate: Every Series And Movie Ranked Worst To Best
3. Stargate
Back in 1994, an ambitious science fiction film had no idea what it would go on to inspire, with Roland Emmerich's take on ancient Egyptian mythology in a quasi-mystical setting becoming a huge financial success. The original film is often credited for ground-breaking visual effects, it's dark and tense atmosphere and it's unrelenting action.
Egyptologist and academic laughing stock Daniel Jackson is recruited by Catherine Langford and the US Air Force to see if he can figure out a device that was buried beneath the sands of Egypt ten thousand years ago. Little does he know that he'll be thrown across the galaxy to a world where the ancient Gods of Egypt oppress a whole world of humans.
While a number of factors from the film would be retconned for the series (Ra is the last of his kind, his true appearance not being serpentine, Jaffa not having head tattoos and so on and so on) and the darker tone would be brightened up with a liberal amount of cheese, the film spawned five different television series and a whole swathe of devoted fans.
Thanks, Stargate.
