Stranger Things Season 3 Review: 6 Ups & 6 Downs
3. There's ONE Brilliant Subversion Of Expectations
Though the overwhelming majority of the season plays out as you'll most likely expect, this is one upending of audience expectations that works incredibly well.
Without even hinting at what it might be, know that one of the show's more predictable-seeming plots actually ends up delivering a genuinely surprising pay-off.
Subversion for its own sake obviously isn't enough - just look at the divisive response to Star Wars: The Last Jedi - but here the left-turn makes absolute narrative sense, even if the Duffers made everyone brace themselves for a more generic resolution for most of the season.
You'll know what we're talking about when you see it.
