8. Going Back To The Future
A popular science fiction trope, whether being tackled by The Avengers or Bill and Ted, is that of time travel - a concept loved by geeks everywhere so long as it’s done well. But what does time travel have to do with the small town of Hawkins Indiana? Honestly, I’m not too sure, but eagle-eyed fans have been taking note and have a theory that Stranger Things might soon be dabbling in some early DeLorean action.
Not only did Hopper’s letter to Eleven refer to ‘the turning back of the clock’, season 3 as a whole mentioned Back To The Future quite a few times. This wouldn’t be the first time the show paid homage to a classic movie, but the concept of time has also been quite prevalent in season 4 material. The season 4 announcement trailer, for example, featured a clock in the background; while the production team’s return to filming post on Instagram showed a grandfather clock shrouded in darkness.
We will have to see whether this was all a precursor to some time travelling component in the show, or just the showrunners having fun with people like us who love to theorize about different odds and ends.
Either way, I’m excited for some answers.
