Supergirl Season 2: 7 Ups And 2 Downs From 'The Adventures Of Supergirl'

4. Making A Stand

Supergirl Superman Martian Manhunter
The CW

Whilst this season premiere very much feels all about the ones parading around in capes and with a big S on their chests, J’onn J’onzz isn’t one to be easily swayed from his point of view, as seen when we witness the frosty greeting between he and Kal-El.

Since we were first introduced to “Hank Henshaw”, we’ve seen that he’s a very proud, stubborn, by-the-book sort of guy (or is that alien?) for the most part. And here we see him clearly refusing to drop the chip on his shoulder even though all around him are gushing over the God-like presence of Superman.

What was great about that is that is highlighted the tenacity and determined nature of the Martian Manhunter, with him refusing to get carried around with the presence of Superman whilst all of those around him were left swooning.

The Martian Manhunter may not get as much superhero action to take part in as Supergirl - or as the Man of Steel here - but his iron will here saw that J'onn J'onzz isn't somebody to back down from an argument... even if the person on the other end of the conflict is the greatest superhero in existence.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic.
