And we’re still not done with the Reeve references. While getting into a helicopter, Lena Luthor admits to not enjoying flying, even though “statistically speaking, it’s the safest way to travel.”
This is word for word what Supes says to Lois when they meet for the first time in Superman. It was also one of many lines recycled for Bryan Singer’s semi-sequel Superman Returns in 2006.
The irony is that Lena is right to be scared of flying in Superman's world, as the Man of Steel is constantly saving people from aircrafts gone haywire. In most adaptations, it is how we first get to see him use his powers (Superman: The Animated Series, Superman Returns, Lois and Clark ETC).
This episode continues the trope as Hoechlin firsts suits up as Superman when he and Kara team up to stop a crashing space craft. It was also referenced in Supergirl's pilot episode, where Kara saved a plane full of people.
