3. Brainy Finds His Humanity

We saw last week that Jesse Rath's Brainiac-5 was an incredibly pleasant full-time addition to the show. The 12th-level intellect's inability to comprehend human interaction has always been a source of comedy gold, and it's wise of the writers to continue giving us these hilarious moments. However, this week's episode allowed us to get to know Brainy in a completely different way.

When his image inducer was hacked, Brainy's true form was visible for all the world to see. While all the world did not see, the staff at his regular Pizzeria did, and they didn't react too well. They branded him an Earth traitor and even threatened violence until Nia Nal stepped in to diffuse the situation.

Brainy was visibly shaken and, it was only later that he realised he was genuinely hurt. He was hurt that somebody would judge him by his outward appearance. He was hurt that humanity turned on him because of who he truly is. He was hurt that his friend didn't accept him.

Not only was this another genius way for the writers to convey how important acceptance truly is, it gave Rath a chance to experiment with a different side of Brainy - and he truly excelled. Perhaps for the first time in his life, the character was experiencing genuine human emotion, and it was a well-executed development.
