Supergirl Season 4: 3 Ups & 2 Downs From ‘Fallout’
1. Supergirl's Message Of Hope
At the episode's conclusion, Supergirl issued a touching statement that also delved into the importance of acceptance. She reminded her audience that where anyone was born doesn't matter because "we are all the same". But she wasn't just talking to the citizens of National City, she was talking to the show's entire audience. She was talking to us.
This is the perfect example of the writers tackling issues far deeper than just the show's main narrative. On the surface, Kara's statements were referring to aliens, but in reality, there are so many people who could identify with her words. She is reminding us all that it doesn't matter where you are from, who you are or who you love because these factors do not determine your character - your actions will do that.
Supergirl is undoubtedly one of the most socially relevant shows on television. Having already covered the importance of universal love and gun violence, it's now tackling what it means to be different in today's society and why we, as humans, should be accepting towards each other. Kara's message is one of hope and it challenges us all to overcome stereotypes and, in effect, make the world a better place.
If Supergirl ever wants to get a real message across to the viewers, all it has to do is get its leading lady in front of a camera. Melissa Benoist was as alluring as ever onscreen and it was impossible not to feel every single word she said.
And now to the negatives...
