Supergirl Season 4: 5 Ups & 1 Down From 'All About Eve'
2. Backing The Right Luthor
The return of the twisted mother/daughter dynamic between Lillian and Lena Luthor was a welcome surprise.
Visiting Lillian in prison in an attempt to get some answers on Lex's escape, Lena was once again subjected to her mother's rants about why she was the inferior child. Just like we had seen so many times before, the Luthor matriarch spoke of Lex with great admiration (but this time it was a lot more fulfilling because we now know what the Lex Luthor of Supergirl is actually like) and berated her daughter for being too emotional.
In the end, the power dynamic shifted as Lena presented her with the plans of the prison (which she obtained from Eve Teschmacher's office) which had a large red 'X' crossed over her mother's cell. The real shock: It was in Lex's handwriting.
Stunned by the possibility that her golden boy would, at some point, try to kill her, Lillian was left with no choice but to trust her daughter. However, this gave Lena the opportunity to show her mother who had the real power and, in doing so, was able to leverage her safety in return for some secret information that Lex apparently didn't want anyone to find out about.
At last, Lena was the Luthor in control. Well played, Miss Luthor. Well played indeed.
