Supergirl Season 4: 6 Major Questions We Have After The Midseason Premiere

4. How Will Supergirl Overcome The President’s Opposition?

The introduction of a new president (to replace the once-adored President Marsdin) was admittedly a bold but interesting direction for the show to take and, at first, it seemed like President Baker was a new ally of the D.E.O. But now it appears that he's steering the organization into unwelcome territory.

While a few disagreements with Supergirl and Alex doesn't necessarily suggest that he's bigoted towards aliens, he does often exude brash, bull-headed and unlikeable qualities. This was quite evident in the show's pre-Elseworlds midseason finale when he gave the Girl of Steel an ultimatum: reveal her true identity or be dismissed from her duties at the D.E.O. Unfortunately for Supergirl, her unwillingness to comply to his brutish rules did indeed lead to her dismissal.

It remains to be seen if that is the end of the matter. However, given that Baker authorised the employment of the bigoted Colonel Haley, who has made life harder for Alex and Kara, and then alluded to a war with Supergirl, it's beginning to look like he may not be the ideal candidate to run a country that prides itself on being the land of the free.

Without the D.E.O. to guide her, it's likely that Kara will be at a loss when it comes to continuing her duties as Supergirl. However, this leaves us wondering if the President will attempt to stop her because, without government authorisation, Supergirl is technically a vigilante now. So, the real question is: How will Kara overcome President Baker?
