Supergirl Season 4: 6 Ups & 3 Downs From ‘Red Dawn’

Downs...

3. Alex's Dream

Though the narrative of 'Red Dawn' was primarily focused on the Red Daughter, the emotional core was undoubtedly Alex's journey to regaining her memories of her sister's life as Supergirl. While that played out incredibly well, there was one nagging issue that threatened to undercut the emotional impact of that beautiful scene.

The dream in which Alex had at the beginning of the episode featured younger versions of herself and Kara as they clapped along to a song on the radio, only for the latter to accidentally clap too hard and create a powerful surge of wind - obviously alluding to Kara's super powers. Alex then woke up and was left confused by the dream.

Opening the episode with this scene may have set up its conclusion well but, given that Alex had already overcome her memory issues weeks ago, it was a little too convenient that she just so happened to have another memory flash right now.

If this had played out over a series of episodes, it would have added another thread to the compelling narrative and made this seem a whole lot less predictable. Sadly, it wasn't to be.
