Supergirl Season 4: 8 Ups & 2 Downs From 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?'
2. The Closing Scene
Supergirl is no stranger to providing us with some awesome visuals, but the closing scene of 'O Brother, Where Art Thou' was something else all together.
Having staged a shocking coup by seizing control of the situation from Lena, Lex's alliance with Eve Teschmacher would have been a fitting conclusion for the episode. But the writers decided to one-up that and capped the whole thing off with an excellently choreographed, directed and edited slow-motion sequence which saw the revitalized Luthor activate his mansion's weaponry to kill every officer in sight. Oh yeah, and Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" played in the background too, as he conducted the weapons to do his bidding.
After building up to it throughout the entire episode, the sight of a newly-cured Lex Luthor, suited and booted as he made his way across the sea of bodies was a sight to behold. Just as the opening scene highlighted what a dangerous Lex Luthor looked like as he ranted and raved about his greatest enemy, Superman, this conclusion was the full-circle moment we had been waiting on and the perfect way to set the stage for his first meeting with the woman that is destined to become his new archenemy, Supergirl.
It was a visually captivating and surprisingly elegant way to portray the catastrophic events but, given who was at the center of them, it worked to perfection. A magnificent finish to a magnificent episode.
